Mumbai Ring Road Nearing Completion

10, January 2026

Still worrying about Mumbai's traffic?

Good news, Just a few years more. Mumbai Ring Roads are nearing completion by 2029.

Mumbai Ring Road master plan prepared by MMRDA that showcases the mega road connectivity across the length and breadth of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) — from Vadodara, Gujarat border up North to Alibaug in the Konkan belt of Maharashtra down South and towards Navi Mumbai/Thane.

MMRDA has approved building an additional 90.18 km of road network to reduce traffic and save time for people. Its building cost is estimated at a cost of Rs. 58,517 crores. This massive, complicated, and multifaceted network of Roads, Flyovers, Reclaimed Coastal Roads, Bridges And Underwater Tunnels aim to free Mumbai of all its disreputable blocks by 2029.

Once this project is completed, this planned infrastructure will have a huge impact on the island city and the connecting mainland. Not only will it simplify and unclog the Mumbai Ring Road, but will also make public transport much more convenient for the people. Outer Ring roads will be connected to Inner Ring roads, providing an unhindered travel experience between North and South Mumbai and also a unified East-West connectivity.

With this, there will be rapid urbanization of Mumbai and Thane – two of Maharashtra’s most economically and culturally vibrant cities. The total project cost of all infrastructure projects including Metro, New Roads, Bridges, Flyovers, Slum Development etc. in the MMR is estimated at Rs 3 Lakh Crore.

Mumbai alone accounts for around 4% of India’s GDP aka Gross Domestic Product, A recent report by Niti Aayog states that the GDP of the Mumbai Ring Road region will double by 2030 from $140 billion to $300 billion.
