The summer heat has gripped India, where even here in Bangalore, popular for its perennially pleasant climate, it is now 33 degrees C.

And according to studies and media across the globe, India is now prone to high heatstrokes till the end of May. Last week itself, over a dozen people lost their lives due to this. In Delhi, the average temperature has risen to 49C.

1) Lighter and Looser Apparel

Clothes are a very important part of our lives, and I'm not talking about the latest trends but how they shelter our bodies from adverse climatic conditions. Give heed to your summer wardrobe, and wear lighter dresses and shirts made of materials like cotton or linen. Do remember white or lighter clothes will absorb lesser Heat. And if the clothes are loose, they will be more breezy and comfortable.

2) Hydrate yourself: Drink More Water

This is pretty much a no brainer and something that all of us do. However, the amount of water also counts. As many of us have learnt in schools, an Adult should drink a minimum of 8 glasses per day; however, in summer, you have to level up this number.

Drink lemonades and other coolants; however, stay away from sugary sodas or soft drinks, and go natural.

If you are exercising or are into recreational sports, naturally, you have to hydrate more. Remember to consume a minimum of 20 to 30 ounces of water before exercising and at least 8 ounces after.

3) Use Moisturizers and Sunscreen

Think of sunscreen as your very own superhero cape, protecting your skin from the harmful UV rays that can lead to wrinkles, sunburns, and even skin cancer. Also, who doesn't want to age like a fine wine instead of a very wrinkly old prune?

6) Consume Summer Foods

Summer Foods, yes, that's a thing! I mean, food and diet are very important parts of physical upkeep. Summer Foods, especially summer fruits, will help us cool throughout the day and night. Fruits of the summer season, like mangoes, guavas, avocados etc., are good for our bodies.

Leafy vegetables, cucumbers, and melons all contribute to summer as well as overall fitness. On the drinks part, buttermilk and chamomile tea will ease up the stress, rashes and skin problems associated with summertime.

7) Have a Good Sleep cycle

Keeping a consistent sleep schedule is highly important to beat the Heat this Indian summer of 2023. Summers are generally known for disturbing the sleep patterns of adults and kids due to the increased Heat.

Another major factor is the increased usage of mobile phones in the late hours, which tends to postpone the much needed sleep. Besides, summers also account for longer days and shorter nights, and the tiredness, along with the fatigue of the daytime, can negatively impact your health.

8) Wear eye protection

The eyes are one of the most sensitive organs in our body, and extended hours in the sun are very harmful to the eyes; hence it's highly advised to wear sun glasses or transition lens spectacles in the summer.
