The Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) is the first smart and green highway in India. It is also known as Kundli Ghaziabad Palwal Expressway (KGP) and is now planned to connect the Yamuna Expressway and Jewar Airport.

Here is everything you need to know about the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway: Overview

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on 27th May 2018. This 135 km, 6-lane, access-controlled highway is part of a larger peripheral expressway project, which includes two projects - Eastern Peripheral Expressway and WPE (Western Peripheral Expressway). Together these highways form the largest Ring Road encircling Delhi, bringing Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad close to the national capital.

The Eastern Peripheral Expressway, including land acquisition, was constructed at a cost of RS 11,000 crores. This expressway connects Haryana and Uttar Pradesh via Ghaziabad and Palwal. Moreover, it is also the country's first solar-powered highway, with rainwater harvesting installed every 500 meters on each side. The EPE was declared National Expressway 2.

In addition, this route will also have 40 fountains and 36 monuments.
