The Mysore Bangalore Chennai Bullet Train project was proposed by the central government to improve connectivity between three prominent cities in south India- Chennai, Bangalore, and Mysore. The development of the 463 km bullet train project has picked up pace. The proposed bullet train route will reduce the travel time between Mysore and Chennai to around 1 hour and 10 minutes. At present, the Vande Bharat Express is the fastest train between Mysore and Chennai via Bangalore, which takes 6 hours and 30 minutes.

Mysore Chennai Bullet Train: Route

The Chennai-Bangalore-Mysore high-speed rail route will span 435 km connecting three major cities with nine stops in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. It will run along the Bangalore-Chennai expressway, near Hoskote and Sriperumbudur, and will be close to Chennai's second airport, Parandur which is only 3 km from the road.

  1. The survey will analyze traffic data to forecast demand and ridership along the high-speed rail corridor.
  2. It will use 5 years of data from toll plazas on the Bengaluru-Chennai highway.
  3. The survey will additionally include rail and air travel data.
  4. Input will be obtained from government and private bus operators as well as vehicle registration records.
  5. The results will help to determine the fee structure based on Willingness to Pay (WTP).

The bullet train will have a maximum speed of 350 kmph and the average speed is 250 kmph. Each train will have a capacity of 750 people.
