Noida International Airport - A Brief Overview

Serving the Delhi National Capital Region and settled in the bustling Jewar neighborhood of Gautam Buddha Nagar District, Uttar Pradesh, the Noida International Airport is an upcoming greenfield airport in Delhi, the National Capital of India!

Reliving Indira Gandhi International Airport from its rising and hassle traffic load, the Jewar International Airport will be serving as its alternative in the Delhi National Capital Region of India.

As per the report of Noida International Airport Limited(NIAL), the Jewar Airport is expected to be the largest airport in India and the whole of Asia. The foundation stone for Noida Airport was laid by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on November 26, 2021.

The Noida Airport was first proposed by the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister 2000, Rajnath Singh as a Greenfield Airport in Jewar, near Greater Noida. It was planned to be constructed adjacent to the Yamuna Expressway as a Taj International Aviation Hub (TIAH). However as per the UPA regime, the construction of the project was put on hold due to the reason for being located within a 72km away distance from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and the authority claimed that this proximity will lead to further traffic congestion and less revenue generation.

In 2014, when the BJP came to power, the Noida Airport project in Jewar was revived. The new government saw potential in the project to boost regional development and improve air connectivity. The renewed efforts focused on addressing the previous concerns and moving forward with the construction of the Jewar Airport to be set up on 2,200 acres (890 ha) of land, which is approximately 72km away from the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, thereby meeting the growing demand for air travel in the region.
