The most awaited Namma Metro Yellow Line is all set to launch in December 2024!

Just after the news of Bangalore's Namma Metro Green Line extension, the expansion of the Namma Metro project in Bangalore has introduced its next significant milestone.

The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is currently conducting the test runs on the 18.82 km stretch covering the whole Bangalore Metro Yellow Line, from RV Road to Bommasandra.

The signaling test for the first-of-its-kind driverless trains in Namma Metro has been started by BMRCL. With its operation, the Namma Metro Yellow Line will transform the rapid transit from Bangalore City center to southern Bangalore.

Yellow Line Metro Bangalore - An Overview

Set-up to roll-on from December 2024, Bangalore's Namma Metro Yellow Line is estimated to explore the dynamic option of a "driverless metro line". Connecting RV Road to Bommasandra in the southeast, the Yellow Line Metro runs a total distance of 18.82km, comprising a total of 16 fully elevated metro stations.

An elevated interchange station will be offered to the Green Line, Pink Line as well as the Namma Metro Blue Line. All this extension and elevation is under the Namma Metro Phase 2 and is all expected to be completed soon.

The Yellow Line Metro is expected to be operational by December 2024. With its inception, the Yellow Line is the first ever Namma Metro Line to have integrated driverless trains. The signaling test is been currently commenced by the officials of BMRCL.

Yellow Line Metro Bangalore - Connectivity

Connecting the fast-emerging Southeast Bangalore to the Bangalore city center, the Yellow Line Metro will be enhancing the connectivity for the IT professionals commuting to the major IT hubs in South Bangalore. Connecting the eastern part to the western part, the Yellow Line Metro Bangalore will be connected to major landmarks in the surrounding area, including the Majestic Bus Stand, Vidhan Soudha, MG Road, Indiranagar, and so on.

Namma Metro Yellow Line began its construction in 2017, it aims to make communication easier and faster for thousands of people. This upcoming Namma Metro Line is designed to enhance the connectivity from the Bangalore city center to the southeast region.

With the help of the Communication Based Train Control(CBTC) signaling system, BMRCL is planning to operate driverless trains through the Yellow Line Metro. With its inception, Yellow Line will be the first ever to acquire driverless metro transit.

The Hindustan Construction Company Ltd. – URC Construction Pvt Ltd. (HCC – URC) JV, made the lowest bid for receiving the tender for the construction of Yellow Line Metro Bangalore. The construction cost of Yellow Line Metro is Rs 797.27 crores, where the state and the central government will bear the project cost by 30% and 20% respectively.

Yellow Line Metro Bangalore - Timing & Ticket Fare

The running time of the Namma Metro Yellow Line is 5 Am to 11 PM. The frequency of trains may vary according to the peak hours and non-peak hours. The frequency of the train will be 4-6 minutes during peak hours, while it may be 10-15 minutes during non-peak hours.

As for charges, the Yellow Line Metro ticket price is a minimum of Rs 10 for covering a total distance of 2 km. The maximum fare will be about Rs 60 for running a distance of more than 24km.
