Today, let's explore one of India's prime civic planning and regulatory bodies, the Delhi Development Authority. Popularly known as DDA.

Delhi Development Authority was an elementary and inevitable catalyst in the development of the Nation's capital and into the spectacular wonder, it is today.

Created in 1957, the DDA is responsible for the development, planning, and construction of residential and commercial projects, plotted developments, roads, bridges, underpasses, water drains, reservoirs, green belts, etc., in the city of Delhi.

DDA Master Plan

It was in 1962, the first DDA Masterplan was formed to facilitate an organized or structured development of Delhi's growth. In this plan, along with the existing structures, the council also identified land parcels around the city for constructing residential colonies, retail spaces, etc. to tackle the ever growing populace of the National Capital. Thus along with addressing both the residential and infrastructural needs of the city, it also ensured that the historic city retained some of the major landmarks in the passage of time as well. By identifying the spatial concerns early on, it could provide ample living spaces to a large chunk of the populace.

The DDA Masterplan has been revised multiple times, like 1982, 2001, 2007, and the latest 2021, to accommodate the evolving population ( which, according to the latest reports, has turned into approximately 128 lakhs).

DDA Housing Schemes

Perhaps more than the infrastructural developments, DDA is known more for its housing schemes. DDA has, as mentioned before, started the housing schemes in 1962 and has provided residential spaces(primarily DDA flats) with all the basic amenities such as water, electricity connections, sewage disposals, etc.

DDA undertakes new projects after an official public announcement that is spread through various media outlets, including publishing in Newspapers, online and social media, etc. After the same, the DDA applications are invited, from which through a draw system, applicants are short-listed and allowed the same.

Commercial, Land Development, and Sports Complex

DDA, apart from the commercial, infrastructural developments also. Delhi Development Authority actively undertakes the developments of shopping centers, hospitals, industrial structures, etc. It has also constructed several sports complexes and stadiums for promoting sports and games across the city.

So that's a basic overview of DDA or Delhi Development Authority folks. We hope you like the article!
