Out of the 508km, viaduct will be raised to a length of 465 km, further, a total of bridges will be constructed, covering a total of 10km. With such a high speed transit, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will be one of the fastest trains in the world.

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project will also have 21 km under-ground rail with 7km going undersea. A 5 km mountain tunnel will also be constructed as part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project.

India had the financial aid from the Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA), providing significant funding through low-intrest rate. The project adopts the Shinkansen technology of Japan, that involves advanced rail technology including a state-of-the-art security system, train controlling mechanism, and signaling.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail - Construction & Land Acquisition

The construction of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Project section through Gujarat was began on April 2020 and is expected to open in 2027. The construction of Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail is a work in progress. 100% of the land acquisition for the MAHSR project is been completed and a 100% civil contract of the project has also been handed over. Larsen & Toubro(L&T) and Sojitz Corporation in Japan handed over Rs 108.6 billion contract for the entire 508km Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed train electrification.

Being part of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, the structures like Sabarmati Multimodal Transport Hub and the HSR Training Institute in Vadodara have been constructed and are gaining renown. Vadodara is setting-up a national institute alongside the National Academy of Indian Railways(NAIR). This high-speed training institute in Vadodara will be the backbone, serving the future development of high-speed corridors in India.

A total of 24 river bridges will be constructed under the MAHSR project. The construction of several river bridges of the MAHSR project have been already completed. Some of the completed river bridges of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project are:

  • Par River - 320 meter

  • Purna River - 360 meter

  • Mindhola River - 240 meter

  • Ambika River - 200 meter

  • Auranga River - 320 meter

  • Venhaniya River - 200 meter

  • Mohar River - 160 meter

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project also gained the significance of having the first undersea rail tunnel in India. The undersea tunnel will run a total distance of 7km, which runs between Shilphata and Bandra Kurla Complex(BKC).
