Home Buying
Gaumukhi and Shermukhi plots and houses have always been the two major ideal plots sought after by indians whenever we aim to buy a residence or start a commercial venture of our own.
The centuries old practice has its roots in Vastu Shastra, which is the ancient Indian science of architecture, and according to which the land or plot's layout plays a great role in deciding the prosperity and positivity in it's fate for us.
Among the various plot types, Gaumukhi and Shermukhi plots have distinct characteristics and are considered suitable for specific purposes.
Let's explore their meanings, differences, ideal Vastu principles, and remedies for non-ideal plots.
A Gaumukhi Plot or Cow faced plot of land is narrower to the front and wider towards the back. Ideal for residences.
Ideal Orientation:
The wider part should be in the North or East (highly auspicious)
The entrance should ideally be in the North or East
Symbolism: The cow or gomatha is sacred in Hindu culture and symbolizes prosperity, motherhood, peace, & perseverance.
Building Placement:
a) Construct the house towards the front or the narrower side
b) Leave open space towards the back or the wider side for gardens, water features, or courtyards.
c) If the plot is sloping, the slope should descend towards the North or East.
Shermukhi plot looks like the face of a lion, where the front portion is wider, and the back portion is narrow, resembling the beast’s face. Ideal for commercial ventures.
Ideal Orientation:
The wider front should face the North or East side for prosperity and growth.
The entrance should be on the North or East side for business success.
Symbolism: Lion represents strength, dominance, and expansion, thus directly correlating to business growth.
Building Placement:
a) Construct the building towards the back ie, on narrower side.
b) Keep the front open for parking, a welcoming entrance, or display areas.
c) If the plot is sloping, it should descend towards the North or East.
Best Orientation: The wider part should face North or East for maximum prosperity.
House Placement: The house should be built towards the front (narrower section), leaving open space at the back.
Open Space: The back area should be used for gardens, courtyards, or water features to enhance positive energy.
Slope Consideration: If the plot has a slope, it should descend towards North or East.
A wider portion facing South or West, as it may lead to financial instability.
Leaving too much open space at the front, which can block energy flow.
Best Orientation: The wider front should face North or East for business expansion and success.
Building Placement: The commercial structure should be built towards the back (narrow section).
Front Usage: Keep the wider front open for parking, display areas, or customer entry points.
Slope Consideration: The slope should descend towards North or East to attract prosperity.
A wider portion facing South or West, it can create instability in business growth.
Having a narrow entrance, may restrict opportunities.
If a Gaumukhi or Shermukhi plot is not aligned according to Vastu, the following corrections can be applied to neuter the effects
If the wider portion is towards the South or West, use Vastu pyramids or copper strips along boundaries to neutralize negative effects.
If the entrance is inauspicious, place a Vastu yantra near the entrance to balance energy.
If your house is built at the back of the plot, then keep the front open and airy with plants to maintain energy balance.
If the wider portion is towards the South or West, install a water feature, like a fountain or pond, in the Northeast to enhance prosperity.
If the entrance is not in the North or East, use a wooden main door with Vastu symbols to invite positive energy.
If the back portion is too narrow, strengthen it with a boundary wall and greenery to create a balanced energy flow.
To simplify,
If you are looking for a peaceful home with long-term stability, a Gaumukhi plot is ideal.
If you are planning to start a business or commercial establishment, a Shermukhi plot will be more beneficial.
Whether you choose a Gaumukhi or Shermukhi plot, it totally depends on your need at the hour. However, analysing the land and the measurements to get the right piece of plot for building your dream has to be perfect.
