Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, inaugurated the FTI-TTP, offering world-class immigration facilities for Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) and Indian National passengers at Delhi Airport Terminal 3.

As part of this programme, the passengers will be offered a fast and secure immigration process through the automated gates(e-gates), a screened immigration pathway for international travelers.

The Fast Track Immigration (FTI) will be launched at 21 major airports in India in 2 phases. As part of the first phase, Along with Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi, other airports in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Kochi will also receive FTI-TTP.

Indira Gandhi International Airport - An Overview

Serving the National Capital Region(NCR), New Delhi, Indira Gandhi International Airport is a primary international airport, located in Palam, Delhi.

Established in 1962, IGI Airport is owned by the Airport Authority of India and is operated under Delhi International Airport Limited(DIAL). Spanning over 5106 acres of land with 3 well-operated terminals serving international and domestic flights.

Indira Gandhi International Airport(IGIA Delhi) is the hub for top Indian carriers, including - Air India, Alliance Air, FedEx Express, Quikjet Airlines, and Vistara, and is the operational base for Air India Express, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Zooom Air. In 2020, Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport became the first carbon-neutral airport in the Asian-Pacific, receiving Level 4 carbon accreditation.

Terminals 1 & 2 of Delhi International Airport serve domestic flights. Whereas Delhi Airport Terminal 3 serves both international and domestic flights and offers modern and advanced immigration services and amenities. The IGI Airport has a total of 4 operational runways, handling over 1,500 flights daily.

As mentioned above, Delhi International Airport has a total of 3 terminals, 1 & 2 serving domestic, and terminal 3, serving both international and domestic flights. Delhi is renowned for being the largest cargo terminal in India, annually handling over 1 million metric tonnes of cargo. Indira Gandhi International Airport is served by approximately 80 airlines and also is the major hub of several Indian carriers, including Air India, Vistara, SpiceJet, IndiGo, and Alliance Air.

International & Domestic Terminals:

Terminal 1(IGIA T1):

Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport serves the major domestic flights. Terminal 1 was the old domestic terminal in the Old Palam Airport, earlier serving as the solo terminal for international and domestic flights. Further, terminal 1 was divided into separate blocks, including 1A, 1B, and 1C.

Terminal 1A was demolished as Terminal 1C. Further on the construction of terminal 1D, the 1B block was closed. Currently Indira Gandi International Airport Terminal 1 primarily handles domestic flights and is subdivided into Terminal 1D for departures and Terminal 1C for arrivals. Terminal 1 was revamped, making it bigger and better-provided services. Today it occupies 206,950 square meters of space area and offers 22 aerobridge, 10 baggage reclaim carousels, DigiYatra services, improved dining & shopping options, a well-lit prayer area, and a yoga space.

Terminal 2(IGIA T2):

Terminal 2 of Indira Gandhi International Airport Delhi was opened on May 1, 1986, and used to be serving international flights till July 10. Further, it was closed for the revamping of terminal 1. Further, terminal 2 was revamped with a cost of Rs 100 crores, easing the traffic of domestic flights in the Terminal. Currently, Terminal 2 of Delhi International Airport serves as a domestic terminal.
