13, December 2025

The latest news of Palakkad Industrial Smart City has brought a tide of joy for the Malayalees.

The central Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by the Hon PM Narendra Modi has announced the development of 12 new Industrial Smart Cities across India under the National Industrial Corridor Development programme, thus creating a “grand necklace of industrial smart cities”.

Kerala's Palakkad is now all set to house one of these smart cities with around an investment value of Rs 3,806 crores.

Where will Palakkad Industrial Smart City come up?

A total of 1,710 acre land is being acquired by the state government in the regions of Pudussery and Kannambra for developing the city. This will enhance both the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor as well as Chennai Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, as it is considered an extension of the latter project.

Upcoming Industries in Palakkad Smart City

Pinarayi Vijayan the hon Chief Minister of Kerala has said the Industrial Smart City has the potential to attract around Rs 10,000 Cr and generate over 55,000 jobs. Minister of Industries in Kerala, P Rajeev has stated that sectors such as

  • Defence

  • Aerospace

  • Food processing

  • Pharmaceuticals

  • Electronics

  • Solid waste management

will be finding themselves drawn towards the Palakkad Smart City. Both the State and Central Governments plan to complete the project without much delay, obtaining clearance and finishing up other formalities faster.

Palakkad's Unique Identity

Palakkad is not just any other district/city in Kerala, it's a place where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony, essentially called as the "Grameena Banghi of Malayalam" or Rural Beauty of Kerala once upon a time.

From the historic Palakkad Fort to the amazingly serene Malampuzha Gardens, the region is steeped in history and natural beauty. The upcoming Palakkad Smart City project aims to preserve and enhance these aspects while introducing new, smart solutions.

Imagine walking through the bustling streets of Palakkad, where digital signages guide you to the nearest available parking spot, or where waste bins send alerts when they need to be emptied, ensuring cleaner public spaces.

The planning authorities will ensure that the beauty of Palakkad will not be overshadowed by technology; rather, technology will act as an invisible hand, enhancing it's natural and cultural assets.

What it means to Kerala?

Kerala has perhaps one of the most educated youth in the country but lacks proper infrastructure for employing such a huge number.

The state's relatively smaller size, the lack of industrial or technological advancements, and renowned status as a consumer state might be the few reasons for the same. This might be yet another reason why Keralites includes one of the most migrated populace - (NRIs and NRKs) of the country.

The Smart City initiative in Palakkad is not just a top-down approach imposed by policymakers.

It's a collaborative effort involving local communities, businesses, and experts in various fields. This means that the needs and aspirations of Palakkad's residents are at the heart of every decision.

To conclude,

As the first steps towards this transformation are taken, one thing is clear: Palakkad's future is bright and smart.

The journey ahead is exciting, and every resident of Palakkad has a role to play in shaping this future.
