4000 Cr Infrastructure Projects in Kochi

Hon PM Narendra Modi on Jan 17, 2024, has inaugurated 3 Major Infra Projects that can give a huge economic facelift to the city. Aimed at the ports, defence and maritime trade of the country, these projects can also give the much needed push for the real estate of Kochi as well according to various experts.

1) Cochin Shipyard New Dry Dock

The reputed Cochin Shipyard is the largest shipbuilding & maintenance facility in India and one of the miniratnas. Located in Kochi the Shipyard hit the headlines recently as it unveiled India's first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant of Indian Navy. The New Dry Dock costing around Rs 1800 Cr is the latest project that can handle heavy ground loading such as aircraft carriers up to 70,000T. This is a truly remarkable move from the central government that will help in lessening our dependency on other nations.

The Cochin Shipyard Dry Dock is 310-metre-long and width of 75/60 metres. The dry dock has a draught of up to 9.5 metres and a depth of 13 metres.

2) International Ship Repair Facility

Known also as the ISRF project, the International Ship Repair Facility is aimed at the International market, where Kochi can mark itself as a Global Ship repair hub. The facility will modernise its features and capabilities to the max in the upcoming days and can be an extension of CSL.

Costing around 970 Crs, the International Ship Repair Facility can accommodate seven 130-metre vessels at a given time. It has six berths ranging around 1400 metres with a ship lift system that can handle 6000T

3) Indian Oil LPG Import Terminal

lndian Oil's new Import Terminal is aimed at the ease of need for prominent Southern regions such as Kochi, Erode, Calicut, Coimbatore, Salem, Madurai, and Trichy. Costing around Rs 1,236 crore will have a 15400 MT storage capacity. This will ensure more affordable and accessible energy for the regions.

PM Modi also during his inauguration speech stated that these three mega projects will help to reinforce India’s maritime prowess under the Maritime Amritkaal vision. He also addressed the improvement and growth of these projects in the coming years will also aid other sectors associated with maritime and oceanic industries.
