Every Year we think of new and creative ways to decorate our homes for the arrival of Lord Ganesha.

Like our birthday, we decorate our homes in different ways with all the glory to celebrate the birthday of our favourite deity.

Ganapati is the time to put our creative hats on and come up with simple Ganesh Chaturthi decor ideas that not just look great but are also easy on our pockets. But sometimes, due to our busy schedules and working from home, we have to settle for what's available in the market right.

Anyway, the spirit of this festival remains high in the hearts of all devotees, calling out Ganpati Bappa Maurya!

1. Flowers & Fragrance

Every one of us knows that flowers are very close to the heart of all the major deities. Thus there is no better option than to decorate our home temple, or we should say, "Ganapati Home".

  • You can choose fresh flowers to match the attire of the Ganesha Idol.

  • Choose seasonal flowers like mogras and marigolds.

  • Keep the floral arrangement to two colours of flowers. You can add some greens to the arrangement by using some leaves from your garden.

  • Flowers will last longer if they get ample fresh water. The stems should be about two inches into the water, and the water must be changed every day.

The peacock theme is all the rage now. You can use a table or a cabinet to create a peacock theme look. Just place thermocol peacock cutouts in the front and peacock feather behind the Ganapathi idol, or you can place a wooden plank and add grass to create a village theme or look. Add a hut or a windmill and fence in there. Decorate the background with colourful fabric.

Decorate the floor using cotton and sprinkle some glitter on top. Now just place clouds, stars and the moon made out of thermocol sheets. Also, paint the background as the sky. you can choose from many more exciting themes based on the space and material you have available.

You can never get it wrong with diyas, either. Bring home simple, earthen lamps, and decorate them the way you like. Paper quelling is fun art, long thin strips of paper are rolled and pinched into different shapes to form decorative articles.
