Even in 2024, the Citizen Amendment Act is in line with that of the Citizenship Act 2019. The CAA Rules 2024 clearly offer the regulation process of applying for citizenship in India as per the Citizen Amendment Act(CAA) 2019. Here is a breakdown of the new CAA rules as of 2024:

  • As per the act, only the emigrates of Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian communities from Pakistan, Afghanistan, or Bangladesh before December 31, 2014, are eligible to apply for Citizenship in India.

  • As for the proof required for applying for the citizenship in India. Should have the below documents and demonstration of the applicants:

    • Country of Origin: Documents like birth certificates, educational certificates, identity documents, land records, or any proof of citizenship from those countries can be used.

    • Date of Entry to India: Visas, residence permits, census slips, driving licenses, Aadhaar cards, ration cards, government letters, birth certificates, etc.

    • Religion: A self-declaration.

    • Knowledge of Indian Language: Should be demonstrated.
