The Purple Revolution or the "Lavender Revolution" is here!
The news has been praising the Lavender Revolution being undertaking its first course, making an excellent impact on the aromatic industry in India.
The Purple Revolution is been offering an excellent start-up avenue under the Aroma Mission of the CSIR - Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.
So,
Around 500 farmers across the village of Doda district of Jammu & Kashmir had their income multiplied after shifting from maze to lavender cultivation, which is now being renowned by the name "Purple Revolution" AKA Lavender revolution.
The Purple Revolution in Kashmir or the Lavender Revolution aims to shift foreign aromatics to homemade aromatics, thereby promoting the aggro-economy of indigenous aromatic crops in India.
With a vision to boost the aroma industry, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) has established the Aroma Mission, implementing targeted innovation in agricultural, processing, and production development of aromatic plants, thereby aiming to transform the aroma sector of India.
The CSIR Aroma Mission majorly focuses on the production of essential oil by encouraging the cultivation of aromatic plants. By establishing this mission, Indian entrepreneurs and farmers focusing on aromatic business with be uplifted as a leading production house worldwide and can also embark on the export business of several essential oils as natural menthol to major regions across the globe.
Farmers and entrepreneurs focusing on the aromatic sector are been drawn by the CSIR Aroma Mission. As a part of Phase 1 of the Aroma Mission, the CRSI has assisted about 6000 hectares of cultivational land across 46 residential districts in India, and about 44,000 employees were trained under the Aroma Mission.
And, as part of Phase 2 of the CSIR Aroma Mission, about 75,000 farming families were offered help by including about 45,000 skilled human resources in the Aroma Mission.
The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research(CSIR) is a research and development organization, headquartered in New Delhi, focusing on the industrial, scientific, and economic growth of India. The Ministry of Science and Technology under the Government of India is the parent institute of CSIR. CSIR was established in the year of 1942, by Sir Arcot Ramasamy Mudaliar and Sir Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar with a vision of uplifting the scientific and technology sectors of India.
The present Director General of CSIR is Mr N. Kalaiselvi. In 2016, the CSIR launched the Aroma Mission in Jammu & Kashmir, recently gaining popularity as the "Purple Revolution" AKA Lavender Revolution. The first laboratory for medicinal and aromatic plants was established in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh in the year of 1959, acting as a frontier aromatic plant research institute of CSIR in India.

Free lavender seed is offered for first-time farmers as part of embracing the Aroma Mission.
Lavender cultivation in Jammu & Kashmir's Ramban district has been initiated by the Indian Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine under the authorization of the CSIR Aroma Mission.
About 20 districts of Jammu & Kashmir including, Ganderbal, Kathua, Budgam, Udhampur, Bandipora, Doda, Srinagar, Kishtwar, and Rajouri embarking on lavender farming under the Aroma Mission of CSIR.
Lavender Oil is the major production commenced under the Purple Revolution of CSIR Aroma Mission with a minimum selling cost of Rs 10, 000/liter. Apart from the essential oil, the lavender water separated from the lavender oil is used to make incense sticks/agarbathies.
Soap and room freshener are also been manufactured from the Hydrosol, generated after the distillation of the lavender flowers.
In order to double the agricultural earnings by 2022, the Purple Revolution is aligned with the government's objective.
The Purple Revolution under CSIR Aroma Mission will improve the livelihood of several farmers and entrepreneurs focusing on the production of aromatic crops thereby enhancing the start-up program in India.
BY doubling the income generation, the Purple Revolution has positively impacted and benefited young entrepreneurs to over 500+ count.
By 2050, the Purple Revolution will be the most powerful tool that will boost prosperity and feed more than 9.7 billion people in India.
With its captivating fragrance and other uses, lavender has gained its popularity in the aromatic sector across the globe. And with the outbreak of Purple Revolution under the CSIR Aroma Mission, India will become one of the leading production houses in the aromatic sector worldwide.
