In a strategic move to improve operational efficiency, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) awarded a ₹48.62 crore contract to M Venkata Rao Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd. in February 2024 for the construction of a 588-meter extension beyond the Whitefield (Kadugodi) station.This extension aims to cross the Indian Railways' Bengaluru-Chennai line and reach Belatur Colony on Whitefield-Hoskote Road.While no new passenger stations are planned for this stretch, the addition of a train reversal crossover-track facility is intended to enhance train operations and frequency on the Purple Line.

Future Prospects

Looking ahead, BMRCL has ambitious plans to further expand the metro network.Phase 3 of the Namma Metro project envisions extending lines into suburban areas, including a proposed 44.65-kilometer extension of the Purple Line to Hosakote in the east and Bidadi in the west.The construction of this phase is expected to commence in 2025 and conclude by 2035, with an estimated cost of ₹15,611 crore.These expansions aim to cater to the city's growing population and the increasing demand for efficient public transportation.
