Chandrayaan 3: ISRO Moon Mission

07, March 2026

"Kudos! to Rocket Women and Her Team of Determined Scientists at ISRO."

Chandrayaan-3 was led by Ritu Karidhal Srivastava an ambitious scientist also popular as the "Rocket Women." among ISRO scientists.

Chandrayaan 2 and Chandrayaan 3 are the dream child of Ritu Karidahal and her team of scientists, with their exemplary work, with precision, and were able to put the Chandrayaan 3 into outer space, orbiting and finally land on the moon successfully to carry out the necessary activities as per ISRO's project mission.

Chandrayaan 3 mission followed by the Chandrayaan-2 to enumerate end-to-end capabilities of successfully launching the space shuttle into outer space by Scientists of ISRO. Their hard work and dedication is "worthy of admiration."

Chandrayaan's -3 's launching took place on 14 July 2023. The rover and lander are expected to land on the south pole of the lunar surface on 23 Aug 2023.
Chandrayaan-3 comprises of Rover and Lander. Which was launched by LYM3 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, ISRO, at Sriharikota. The propulsion module will carry the payload till the 100Km reaching the Moon's orbit.
The propulsion module has Spectro-Polarimetry Habitable Planet Earth (SHAPE) the purpose of the payload is to analyse the Spectral and Polari metric measurements of the Earth from the lunar orbit.

Lander Payloads will analyse Chandra's Surface through Thermo-physical Experiment (ChaSTE) measures thermal conductivity and measure temperature and thermal conductivity.
Lunar Seismic Activity (ILSA) for measuring the Seismicity Activities around the landing site;

Palyload Langmuir Probe (LP) will estimate the plasma density and also its variations.

Chandrayaan-3 also includes a passive Laser Retroreflector Array from NASA for lunar laser ranging experiments.

The Mission Objectives of Chandrayaan-3

  • To carry out a Safe and Soft landing on Lunar Surface

  • To forecast the Rover roving on the moon's orbit and

  • To conduct in-situ Scientific Experiments.

To accomplish the mission objectives, several technological advancements are included in the lander, including:

  • Altimeters: RF and Laser-based Velocimeter

  • Inertial Measurement

  • Propulsion System

  • Navigation Control and Guidance

  • Hazard Detection and Necessary Precautions

  • Landing Leg Mechanism

The lander will carry out several experiments to identify conditions that resemble the Earth's conditions:

  • Integrated Cold Test - Perform test using helicopters

  • Integrated Hot test - Use tower crane

  • Lander Leg mechanism - Test lunar simulating test bed and various touchdown conditions

Worldwide Impact

As Chandrayan 3 ascended the skies, all of the world's eyes were on it. Though many were sceptical, most of the nations and corporates were interested in the possibilities it would open up.

Shortly after Russia had launched Luna 25. However on 19 August 2023, the Luna 25 space craft encountered failure and lost contact with the base. Roscosmos has stated then that Luna 25 had collided with the Lunar Surface.

Conclusion:

Chandrayaan-2 project with a heartbreaking outcome. Kept Scientists under tremendous pressure to make the next project, Chandrayaan 3 a successful one.

With extraordinary work from a team of scientists and precision calculations, ISRO is able to achieve the project objectives with flying colours.

Chandrayaan is Rocket Women's and Country's Dream Come True- Mission Accomplished. "Sky-Rocketing" the Country's Pride to outer-space.
