The Legend of Hanumanji

Lord Hanuman was born to the Vanara chieftian Kesari and Anjana ( hence the moniker Anjeneya, son of Anjana) after years of being childless couple. It's said that Kesari had done a very a long ritual and penance to Vayu dev or the god of Winds and air for a child and thus Hanuman or Maruti was born with the blessings and immense strength of Vayu deva.

His childhood was filled with mischiefs and pranks. As a toddler he possessed divine strength and invincibility. He thought the sun was a mango and jumped a great leap flying to catch the sun. Seeing this an angered Indra dev striked down the child with his Vajrayudha.

Vayu Dev was especially fond of the child and rushed to his aid. Angered he stopped the air supply in the world, helpless Indra dev and other gods requested Vayudev. He restored the world back to the way it was after all the gods showered the child with their ultimate blessings.

Hanuman would grow up and become a staunch devotee and follower of Lord Rama of Ayodhya. He along with his vanar sena led by Sugriva, Angada, Nala and the patron king of bears Jambavan accompanied Lord Ram and Lakshman in their quest to save Mata Sita from the clutches of the Asura emperor Ravana.

His exploits and battles during the war is very renowned. Even after the war, Lord Hanuman followed and was a part of Lord Ram's life till his death. It was said that even death could not take Lord Ram due to the immense faith and protection of Hanumanji. Lord Ram, being an avatar of Mahavishnu knew the balance of the world existed on him returning to his holy abode and leaving the human avatar behind, tricked Hanuman into searching for his ring in the depths of the earth and leaving his earthly avatar behind. After which, Hanumanji turned to meditate in the Himalayas for eternity as he is a Chiranjeevi or immortal.
