Joka is a well-developed area in South West Kolkata close to Behala. It is part of the South 24 Parganas District and falls under the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) locale. The region is known for facilitating the superior Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta). Territories nearer to Joka are Thakurpukur, Pailan, Sarsuna, Barisha, and Behala. The under-development Kolkata Metro Line 3, which would lay out the network from Joka to Esplanade, has worked on private interest in Joka. It has a mix of the apartment.
The locality is easily accessible to far-off localities of Kolkata via Diamond Harbor Road, James Long Sarani, and Mahatma Gandhi Road. However, the road condition between Tarantola and Joka (10 km) is not in good shape. The locality lacks metro connectivity, and the nearest Blue Line metro station, namely Netaji station, is 6 km from here and reachable in 30 minutes. But, the locality would soon receive metro connectivity through Line 3 (Joka - Esplanade), which is under construction and is expected to be completed by 2021.

Also, the prestigious IIM Calcutta is a significant landmark in Joka. Joka is located close to Behala, an industrial hub specializing in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, spray paints, and metal plating. It is well-connected with major commercial hubs in Central Kolkata, such as BBD Bagh (19 km), Park Street (15 km), and Esplanade (17 km). The prominent IT/ITeS hubs of Salt Lake Sector V and New Town are about 30 km from Joka and can be accessed through Diamond Harbor Road and Mahatma Gandhi Road.
